Kanchanjunga has been on our list forever. After we reached 50k subs, we decided to go for it. Our friend Nupu from Ghunsa had been inviting us to visit KBC since last year. We met him, planned our Itinerary with Himalayan Ecological Trekking (a big thanks to NB and Bikesh dai for outlining the route and co-sponsoring this trip) and set-off.
It was still monsoon when we left, the month of September. We took the opposite route from Normal, i.e., South Base Camp first and North second. Surprisingly, we found this trek much easier than our earlier treks, with day hikes normally ranging from 4-6 hrs a day. This is by far one of the most diverse and pristine trekking trails inside Nepal, where you go from 200-300 m lowlands of Jhapa upto an altitude of 5140m., the vegetation, landscape and ethnicity of people diversifies as you go higher. And did we mention, it was the most adventurous trek too. Crazy Sweating in the sunny slopes of Jorpul, to the leech infested bushes of Yamphudin, the steep hike of Lajetham (literally, the HARDEST uphill we ever trekked), Yaks chewing our bags to dinner at a Shed in Ramjer, the list goes on and on. We tried for almost a week to shorten the video but all of these events felt so important, we couldn’t just take them away.
In this first episode, we’ll explore the South side of Kanchanjunga. We met some amazing people on the way, were favoured by the weather gods and things went according to the plan.
Thanks to our exploring partner.
